South Orange County Rods and Customs Monthly Meeting

Club Meeting at Laguna Niguel Regional Park
Thursday, August 8

President’s Report
The members in attendance welcomed Denny Katovsich as our new president. Thank you, Denny, for taking over from Bob Whaler who has done an amazing job as our president for such a long time. Thank you, Bob, for all the work you do to put into your commitment over the years. Denny called up Bob to receive gifts from the club wrapped in Christmas paper. He received a really nice Hawaiian shirt made by Tommy Bahamas. He also received a model of an engine. When he has it built, he will bring it to the club meeting assembled by him showing the members he really is a great mechanic. 😊
Thank you, Bob, for your service to our great car club. He turned a meeting over to our new President Denny who thanked all the members for their attendance and a big thank you to the Chefs for a great barbecue. He announced that there was still time to check out the silent auction. A big thank you to Bob Wright and Jim Boka for their time coming early to set up the food. They also bought the food. Also thank you to the helpers including Doc and Mike Stoner for their help with the barbecuing. There was good food left over and he suggested members take home leftovers. Thank you again for all you do to make this summer’s meetings in barbecues in the park happen. The September meeting will be the last one to be held in the park.

Treasurer’s Report
Jim Boka gave his report. The treasury started good. July income is $75 he paid out $254 for the picnic in the park.

Birthdays
Willi announced the birthdays for August: Ed May, Herb Lehman, Karl Sutherland.

Old Business
Very sad news. We lost one of our members Ben Buchanan. There was a memorial service for him at Saddleback Church. Quite a few of the club members attended to say their goodbyes. They all drove their hot rods and had a police escort. Ben would have liked that. A big thank you to Nancy Rockwood‘s daughter for the beautiful flower arrangement sent on behalf of our club SOCRC. You will be missed Ben, rest peacefully.

Please see Dennis Avery for anything any club clothing you would like. Or order them through Dennis’ email. Dick and Annie Bennett brought the new jackets to the meeting. She collected the money from for them and has some left. She will bring them to the next meeting. She has one for Denise, Dennis Avery, Richard Block, Barbara Block and Karl Sutherland. Show me the money! Thank you for all for paying upfront.

New Business
Potential new member: Jay Smith - welcome to the best car club in Orange County.

The Christmas meeting will be held at the Dana Point Yacht Club. Bob and Carroll will be hosting the event, more details to follow. Thank you, Bob and Carol Whaler. Bob was voted in as their new Activities’ Director. Thank you, Bob, for announcing the upcoming functions.

Trophy Hounds
Don Bierce won best convertible and David Friedman also won a trophy at the San Diego Mopar Club All American car show in Carlsbad.

Raffle
There was no raffle due to the having the silent auction.

The Paddle
Rich Thompson takes the paddle from Dick Bennett. Dick did not bring the Paddle to the meeting therefore he had to pay the one dollar fine!
